Basic Principle Problem Solving is the best investment I have made in my professional growth. It is the one manual to which I refer almost every working day. As a person who stutters and a clinician with some experience in working with school-age children who stutter, I find I have a lot to learn from Chmela and Campbell about deeply understanding the nature of the problem for each individual child, thinking critically, and continually problem solving. These days, my students’ Individualized Education Programs are looking decidedly more individual as they move in the direction of becoming better overall communicators. This manual is invaluable and very highly recommended.

Chmela and Campbell's book became an immediate must-have for my clinical library. Basic Principle Problem Solving outlines how to clinically solve a problem — any problem — in a clear and very readable voice. This book offers insight into how great clinicians think. Replete with great visuals, the ideas here are easy to follow and explain to others. My favorite part of the book is the chapter with case studies, which brings together all the steps and concepts outlined in this manual and gives the reader an insight into how a thorough and thoughtful clinician would go about moving through the steps of clinical problem-solving. Reading this chapter felt like being a lucky fly on the wall of a great clinician's treatment room. Internalizing these basic principles of problem-solving has provided me with an approach to every client I could ever work with, regardless of age or diagnosis. This is a must-read for any clinician, new or more experienced.
